It’s been over a month since the Pitch Wars announcements, and I still feel like it’s all a dream. Maybe it has to do with finding out in the middle of the night while in Boston visiting family (when I should have been dreaming.) Or maybe it’s the fact that I spent so much time daydreaming of this very reality during the month plus waiting period. Whatever the case, it’s not a dream, and for that I am extremely grateful!
It’s been a whirlwind month of picking apart Abigail’s edit letter on suggested changes, re-outlining the story, and pretty much completely re-drafting the entire thing (I’m 75% of the way through now!) After I’m done with that, there’s line edits and beefing it all up and checking for consistencies and…just SO MUCH more. I’m not sure there are enough weeks to get it all done, but I’m doing my best!
After having some time to reflect, the biggest takeaway I have about being picked is how much the RIGHT person really matters. I’ve submitted to Pitch Wars before, as well as other mentorship programs, and queried agents, but I can’t emphasize enough how this time, I truly found someone who UNDERSTANDS the types of stories I want to tell and really gets the heart of why I write. Whenever I get a rejection, my husband always says, “It only takes one yes.” Well, this time I got my yes, and I’m so glad it was from the right person!
